Every booking counts: how ITF made 13 million annual taxi journeys a source of decision-making data

Internett Trafikk Formidling AS (ITF) delivers advanced taxi systems that support taxi businesses in one complete solution. ITF’s systems cover every process in a taxi dispatch centre — from booking, planning and delivery through to invoicing and settlement with the taxi owner. In 2025 ITF’s solutions cover 180 taxi dispatch centres, 3,300 taxis, 6,500 drivers, 400,000 taxi app users and more than 13 million taxi journeys.

What was the challenge?

ITF is an innovation partner and a meeting place for the most established and reputable taxi dispatch centres in Norway. The company has unique industry knowledge and works continuously to improve its products, to the benefit of both taxi customers and the taxi operators themselves. The result is a complete range of services and products that give customers efficient, secure and safe operations across every part of their business.

Data management of taxi operations in Norway was digitalised as early as 1982, and ITF’s customers have a high degree of process automation. Thirteen million taxi journeys a year produce very large volumes of data — data that holds valuable insight for the dispatch centres.

Taxi operations in Norway are highly complex and in a class of their own internationally. The main reason is that taxi services in every part of the country are an integrated part of society-critical functions such as health, schools and elderly care. Because of the wide variation in the nature of the assignments, the data can appear both unstructured and fragmented. Static reports give only a surface-level picture of the business; gaining deeper knowledge of operations required dynamic tools.

Our solution

The dispatch centres wanted to bring together data from all parts of ITF’s systems, in order to gain deeper insight for use in control functions and in improvement work.

Codento supports ITF and the dispatch centres across the full chain: automating the extraction of data from the source systems, building models that solve important user needs and connect data across the different operational processes, preparing that data for reporting, and finally producing good, user-friendly reports and analyses for the dispatch centres.

The solution has become a platform for insight that gives solid control of the data. It is built on a modern self-service analytics platform, with data updated continuously, and each dispatch centre accesses its own data through its own applications and reports.

Why Codento?

The decisive factor was not the reporting layer but the data underneath it. ITF’s data is generated across a wide variety of assignment types, and reliable insight depended on a partner who could work through that material properly. As ITF puts it, the consultant from Codento showed a unique ability to understand ITF’s master data and to uncover quality deficiencies in it — something that has been very important in delivering insight the dispatch centres can trust.
Codento also delivered the whole chain rather than a single piece of it — extraction, modelling, data preparation and reporting — and built the result as a scalable and reliable solution that serves both ITF and ITF’s own customers.

What were the results?

With the analytics platform delivered by Codento, ITF has established a unique service for the taxi dispatch centres. The solution shows where concrete improvements can be made in day-to-day operations, and at the same time provides useful insight, management information and a basis for decision-making for dispatch centre leadership.

The dispatch centres now have an overview of very nearly all operational data per taxi journey. Key outcomes include:

  • Pickup precision and delivery precision measured per journey
  • Visibility of the number of available cars
  • Environmental reporting
  • A foundation for using machine learning to predict capacity and demand going forward
  • One insight platform serving both ITF and its dispatch centre customers, scaling across 180 centres

Together these give ITF and the dispatch centres a level of insight into their own operations that was not available from static reporting.

In the customer’s own words

“Codento has helped us build a scalable and reliable analytics and reporting solution, both for ourselves and for our customers. The reports and analyses give the taxi dispatch centres unique insight — from every single taxi booking through to an overview of all journeys handled by their own centre. The consultant from Codento has shown a unique ability to understand our master data and to uncover quality deficiencies in it, which has been very important in providing reliable insight.”
